Watch a video of Scarlett coming home!
Today we brought Scarlett home after two long days in the animal hospital. Per our personal research and the vet’s recommended reading, we were fully prepared for the gruesome 12 inch wound stretching across her side where her leg once was. Since the surgery was scheduled I had been envisioning the moment we would pick her up. In my vision Scarlett was lethargic, delirious on dog drugs, and would need to be wheeled out in some sort of pint-sized stretcher.
Nay! Not this dog! This charismatic canine hopped to her humans bearing slobbery puppy smooches and leaving a trail of happy pee behind her. 🙂
We hadn’t imagine her leaving the vet after an amputation in LESS pain that when she went in. But she truly was. In all reality, Scarlett has been primarily using one front leg prior to her surgery. Her now departed limb was more like an evil parasite, causing her pain and getting in the way. Good riddance #4.
That’s awesome! She looks great!!
Now – don’t be surprised if she crashes a little bit in a couple of days. There are a lotta drugs in her system. The first 2 weeks can be a bit of a rollercoaster. Hopefully Scarlett will breeze through! But if she doesn’t, be sure to post any questions in the forums (folks are more likely to see questions in the forums and you’ll tend to get more input there).
We’re all here for you if you need some support. Or if you just want to show off more cute pics. We love cute pics and vid. We also will help celebrate when she does her first post-amp poop. It’s any excuse for a pawrty or extra treat around here!
Hooray for Scarlett,

Little Miss Happy-Pants! What a great video – thanks for sharing.
Scarlett is beautiful!
Definitely watch out for that “crash”. The second week was harder for Zeus than the first week. Hopefully Scarlett will be one of those pups that sails through the whole recovery period.
Good luck!!!
Lisa
oh scarlett – you are definitely a tripawd warrior princess!!! love the pink wrap. know that the next two weeks are sometimes called ‘hell weeks’ – especially for the humans. we highly recommend medicinal naps, whenever any of you can fit them in. we are all here for you, hopefully you will have an uneventful recovery!!!!

Thank you so much for posting this video! Our beautiful 11 y.o. Golden, had her surgery this morning, January 4th. We will pick her up on Friday and I too was imaging the doggy sized stretcher and having 2 neighbors help us lift this 70 lb dog out of our car. Maybe, hope upon hope, our greeting will be the same. We know Chloe has some work ahead of her, but hopefully what I’ve been worried about won’t be so bad.
I wish you and your gorgeous Scarlett all the best. She looks like a real sweetheart.

Hi Denise,
I’m sure Chloe is doing wonderfully. The post-op pain is likely dim in comparison to the cancerous limb. And I bet she can’t wait to be home with her humans again. I was so surprised at how resilient dogs are when it comes to healing…much better than their 2 legged counterparts. No wonder we love them so much! They really are amazing creatures.
You get to see Chloe TOMORROW!! Yay!!

Thank you Scarlett and Brandie!
Hi Denise and Chloe,
Happy coming home day!!! I can only image how happy Chloe is to be back home with her family. Best of luck and we wish Chloe a smooth recovery 🙂
